Here’s what you’ve all been waiting for: a real live review..

M.I.A., Kala
So as I have stated, I rather adore the song “Paper Planes” (there’s something about female effrontery that I rather like); therefore, it’s no surprise I downloaded the whole album. I’m not gonna lie, though, I’m rather disappointed. I really think an artist’s singles should be representative of their general style, but I did not find this to very true with the tracks on Kala. Where “Paper Planes” is edgy, fun, and musical, the rest of the songs on the album are mostly over-synthed rap. I do applaud M.I.A. for talking about actual issues, instead of the usual titillating fluff heard in that genre. And I do like the use of children–because really, who can say no to international kids rapping (“Mango Pickle Down River”). So will I be giving the album another listen? Probably not. But hey, you might like it… at least check out “Paper Planes.”
